Our Mission

Our Mission

“Our mission is to organize participant-led weekly meetings, to discuss pressing social issues, and host community events that support and inspire young women. Girls United MN is a group led by girls for girls (and our allies), that discusses and takes action on relevant social topics, gains knowledge from professionals, and inspires younger generations”

Today

Girls United MN provides resources and guidance to students across Minnesota so that they can lead their own Girls United chapter. With the continuous support of the non-profit, students are able to develop advocacy skills, form relationships, and fight for gender equality in their community.

We are so excited that we have expanded our Girls United MN Chapters to 10 High Schools and Middle Schools, in addition to our original chapter at Hopkins.

We have chapters at Hopkins, Edina, Wayzata, Minnetonka, St. Louis Park, Armstrong, Hopkins North Junior High, Hopkins West Junior High, Wayzata West Middle School, and Owatonna! Email us to get connected to one of these chapters!

Our History

Girls United MN began when founder Jessica Melnik experienced gender inequality in her 7th-grade classroom. With the help of her teacher, Mrs. Wester, Melnik began hosting small monthly meetings with girls to discuss this inequality. It quickly grew leaps and bounds into the non-profit and club we know today.
